Tim Townsley
Artist

Tim Townsley is an artist who works and lives in Los Angeles, Ca.  Townsley received his BA in Art from Cal State L.A. and his Masters of Fine Art from Otis Art Institute.  He has taught mural painting through UCLA Extension and was an instructor at Cal Arts (California Institute of the Arts) teaching figure, color theory, design, and painting.  Townsley has extensive experience in the entertainment industry.  His work covers commissioned portraits, set paintings, matte painting, scenic art and murals.  He has painted murals for theme parks including Disneyland (Anaheim), Sea World (San Diego), Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia) and for McLaren’s Home for Children (El Monte) for which he received a commendation from the Los Angeles County Supervisors.   His murals in hotels include Las Vegas (Mirage, Holiday Inn, and Aladdin) as well as the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Ca. His commissioned murals and paintings are exhibited in most Western Bagel retail stores. His work has been used on the covers of several brochures and he recently designed a logo for guerillalit.com, a literary website.

Since 2000, he has been commissioned to paint the honorees for the Friends of Jazz at UCLA (FOJ) fundraisers; has donated a painting of Gerald Wilson to FOJ which was made into posters to promote ‘A Tribute to Gerald Wilson’ which benefits the Gerald Wilson Scholarship Fund at UCLA; and was commissioned by FOJ to paint David & Barbara Abell, founding members and great supporters of jazz. Townsley was also commissioned to paint a portrait of William Ford III, CEO of Ford Motor Company for UC Riverside; he displayed 12 works at the Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles to benefit the Community Outreach for Prevention and Education (COPE); he donated a painting of five jazz honorees to the California Jazz Foundation for a live auction at Catalina's Jazz Club; and in 2008, Townsley’s exhibit of jazz paintings was the pick of the week in City Beat with a featured article by Kirk Silsbee. Recently he was commissioned for paintings for the ‘Bones’ television series and a mural for a national Crayola commercial. His work has appeared in ‘The Quill and Palette’ and ‘Bad Infinity’ books of poetry and in a publication entitled ‘Footfalls’ by physicist Bibjas De.  Townsley has shown in various Los Angeles galleries and venues over the years; and has shown annually at the James Gray Gallery in Bergamot Station since 2003.
